the term Giclee, is just a fancy name for Ink Jet printing. It’s a word that marketers like to use to make it sound more exotic than what it really is. If you want to read more about Giclee, there is a reasonable explanation of it in Wiki;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giclee
That does not make it terrible or anything like that.
There is also sublimation printing, which is different to ink jet printing. The ink is kind of vaporized onto the substance.
I wouldn’t get too caught up in the language or marketing hype, but you may possibly question a few more questions. Have a look at the prints yourself, and see if you can tell the difference. It sounds like a gift from the heart, which i am sure he will to one top or another come to recognize and appreciate, regardless of marketing hype.
I was doing research on this earlier in the year, but have forgotten the details, and the information i have stored everyplace that is not immediately accessible at this time.
I can say from what i dredge up, that some type of printing involved a clear protective layer over the print. Each type of printing has its pros and cons.
Sorry i cant be of much more help to you at this time. I hope someone else can supply more information if you need it.
Excellent luck.
